Design Quarterly Fifty Years: 1946–1996
Steven Guarnaccia, Montclair, New Jersey, 1996
Description
Design Quarterly commissioned fifty designers to design fifty covers honoring the magazine’s fiftieth anniversary. My drawing appeared as the back cover. I sent up fifty years of graphic and industrial design icons, from a George Nelson clock to a Phillipe Starck lemon juicer, all within a homey domestic scene.
The fact that the magazine’s audience is designers and professionals in related fields, and that the art director gave us creative carte blanche allowed me to indulge my personal preferences and rely on the reader to get the joke.
