Lionel Classic Catalogue 1998
Fitch, Inc., Worthington, Ohio, 1997
Description
The Lionel Classic Catalogue 1998 showcases Lionel electric trains and related products for both retailers and collectors. Lionel asked us to give their catalogue a more contemporary look and also to combine two previously separate catalogues. Fitch updated the catalogue style by using creatively lighted and staged studio photography with sepia-toned location shots. Typography and layout are sophisticated, yet present information in easy to understand hierarchies. The 1998 catalogue has a dynamic new look while preserving the romance and nostalgia of the Lionel brand—appealing to the “pretender” train operators and avid hobbyists who collect and display model trains. A special collector’s edition catalogue was produced that was serially numbered, slipcased, and featured an embossed cover with copper rail bindings as well as a special wraparound timeline chronicling significant events in Lionel’s history.
