Corning “Future” TV ad
Imaginary Forces, Hollywood, California, 2000
Description
Imaginary Forces’ concept for Corning was an abstract roller coaster ride through a fiber-optic tube. As nothing created in the computer has the detailed characteristics of actual light shot on film, several detailed glass models were built that reflected light and carried it in a specific direction. After this, the process was three-fold. First, a series of moves and light effects were shot on the models. Then the footage was manipulated in the Flame, adding exaggerated turns and speed changes. Finally the selects were edited in the Avid, to control the pace of the spot and to hit the appropriate music cues. The constant twists and turns, combined with the selective bullet pointing of information in the form of light, conveys the feeling that Corning’s fiber optic technology is like drinking out of a fire hose of information.
