Shelagh Keeley
Underline Studio, Toronto, Ontario, 2009
Description
This catalogue was designed for the mid-career retrospective exhibit of artist Shelagh Keeley, hosted by the Robert McLaughlin Gallery and the McMaster Museum of Art. The catalogue features a cover that is nearly 40 inches in length, which the reader/viewer is required to unwrap in order to discover the essays and artwork within. The cover’s interior image is of one of the artist’s major works, an almost 10-meter-long painting on steel. This unique feature physically represents and continues the experience of the exhibit.
Juror Notes
This book grew on me and I came back to it a couple of times. The understated cover creates a surprise element with the colorful foldout inside cover, which features a selected work by the artist. Beautiful layout and typography.
