Zazie no metro
Cosac Naify, São Paulo, Brazil, 2009
Description
Zazie no metrô (Zazie in the Metro) is a novel about the foul-mouthed Zazie’s wanderings through Paris in the 1950s. She dreams of riding the metro but a public transportation strike gets in the way of her underground ride. The book’s graphic design dialogues with the novel’s boldness. Printed on Bible paper, it summons the period in which it was written through the fragments of posters that are reproduced on the inner pages. The jacket, also on Bible paper, reproduces the effect of those pages, hiding the cover under it.
Juror Notes
The novela is notable for its concealment of all the imagery between French-folded, bound pages. It should be noted that the book is printed on very thin, inexpensive paper with show-through to the hidden images.
