Thinking outside the chair
Alt Group Limited, Auckland, New Zealand, 2009
Description
The concept, design and story of this piece leads you through the design process and takes you on a journey that inspires and challenges you to “rethink” the work chair.
To coincide with the launch of Formway Design’s new product, a book was created to support the research behind the development of the world’s first multi-posture multi-mode task chair, Be. The narrative was based on the concept of chairs within the context of the workplace. Observation was the starting point to rethink how we sit at work. A large mirror set was created to document the multiple perspectives of individual sitting styles from a single angle. The book reveals the design process and exploration, placing the product within a broader context of inquiry.
