Lavender May

Ceci New York, New York, New York, 2009

Description

The client approached Ceci New York with the challenge to create a one-of-a-kind chic and sophisticated identity. The Lavender May logo or mark connects its audience to the service—a person and an experience. People, especially targeted future customers, naturally want to associate themselves with it.

The lavender flower has gathered significant symbolic meaning through its long history. “Lavender” comes from the Latin lavandarius, from lavare, “to wash.” Lavender, both the oil and scent, has long been known for its soothing and cleansing properties. For many, the fresh scent evokes images of English gardens or Provence, long known for its lavender fields. The color of the flower is a soft and romantic version of the color purple, associated with royalty since the time of the Phoenicians.

Lavender May’s audience is composed of busy working professionals with distinct appreciation for luxury goods, one-of-a-kind details and creativity. Their style is thoughtfully and carefully expressed in their clothing and homes, creating a cohesive and sophisticated statement. The typical customer, whether modern or traditional, is well traveled, cultured and open-minded, with a consciousness of bespoke quality.

This piece reaches its intended audience by word of mouth and event broadcasting. Lavender May will be most successful based on others’ references when attending an event by the company. The identity reflects the same qualities as the business: chic and flawless execution, meticulous attention to detail, creative design (through aesthetics and general vision) and individuality.

Juror Notes

Great logo and design execution.

A restrained, elegant identity, carefully executed across the board. I particularly like the R and the mailing label.
