The Summer of the Ubume
Triboro Design, Brooklyn, New York, 2009
Description
Referencing the major themes of Natsuhiko Kyogoku’s novel—death, the supernatural and childbirth—the black orb on the cover is printed with a high-gloss UV varnish, producing shimmering ghost-like reflections.
Juror Notes
A one-color cover that has real impact. Contrast of type selection and sizes used to very good effect. Judicious use of spot varnish.
