KNOCK, 3-D
KNOCK, Inc., Minneapolis, Chicago, Illinois, 2010
Description
Project brief: KNOCK, a branding, advertising and design agency, has years of experience with bringing extra dimension to their work. This self-promotional book needed to showcase KNOCK’s environmental work within the retail space, letting current and potential clients see these capabilities in an interesting way. The main challenge was representing these three-dimensional experiences in a two-dimensional book.
Approach: The solution was creating and printing many of the images in stereoscopic 3-D and supporting the work with an online component. The team included everyone in the firm: strategists, designers, writers, animators, 3-D engineers, web designers and programmers. The copy evoked a playful journey and the discovery of new dimensions, while covering more technical and procedural topics. All images, as well as the supplemental online anaglyphic 3-D video, were created and rendered in house.
Executional challenges included making the colors in our work behave properly for anaglyphic 3-D and sourcing and making our own 3-D glasses to be perforated and self-contained within the book.
Effectiveness: The result was a beautiful, engaging and irresistible presentation of our environmental case studies. It accurately represented the KNOCK brand while revealing the many expert capabilities of our people. Given the current economy, retail stores are competing harder for more limited consumer resources. This book showcased our ability to create memorable and economical in-store experiences that help to increase consumer confidence and activity. Once the mailings began, we saw an immediate uptick in client interest.
