Tartine Bread

Chronicle Books, San Francisco, California, 2010

Description

Project brief: To create a visual, timeless reference for bread making.

Approach: We wanted to create a package that spoke to the artisanal quality and effortless beauty of Tartine Bakery in San Francisco and reflected the passion and voice behind the bread maker and his food. A slightly puffy, tactile cover without a jacket immediately came to mind. Its puffy texture suggests a loaf of bread while the jacketless hardcover is extremely functional. Uncoated paper also added to the experience. It was a natural way to represent the beautiful step-by-step photography by Eric Wolfinger.

Effectiveness: We hope its typographic simplicity and visual beauty will stand the test of time. To us, that’s a sign of success.
