LEGO Factory Tour website
Pop & Company, New York, New York, 2003
Description
There is a natural affinity between the snap-together universe of LEGO and some of the most important currents of contemporary visual design. The orderly grid systems of Swiss modernism and the pixel mosaics of computer graphics both share the precise, modular logic of those little plastic bricks. When LEGO asked us to create an animated factory tour we jumped at the chance to make an experience that didn’t illustrate the precision engineering of the famous Danish toy makers, but actually embodied it. The result is a tiny, isometric world where everything fits together with a satisfying click. If we were escapist types, this is the kind of world we would like to escape into. Maybe we’re Platonic idealists, or maybe we’re just neat freaks.
Juror Notes
Very interesting steps, nice merge from cartoon to live video. Fun process to watch, great design to play with.
