This edition has been designed to convey as much as possible the spirit of the original, issued in 1929 by Neuer Deutscher Verlag. As many of the original photographs no longer exist, the illustrations herein have been reproduced from the 1929 edition and a 1964 issue. Type style and size, although different from the first edition were chosen in an attempt to be true to the feeling of the original design and the era.
