The Drowned Valley

The Drowned Valley

Richard Hendel, 1976

Description

The basic format of the book was determined before the manuscript was in its final shape. The rules were intended to suggest old newspapers from which the quotes are made, and to separate the various kinds of material in the manuscript—interviews, old cuts, quotes from newspapers, and photographs. In retrospect the rules now seem too insistent. A reddish-brown tint was added to the ink to suggest the sepia tone of many of the original photographs.
