This is a slightly creepy but romantic novel with some love, death (maybe murder) and, of course, an unacknowledged artist included. It seemed obvious to use one of Audubon’s drawings, especially a raven, the symbol of death. The challenge was to use it in a way that it didn’t look like it was from a field guide while maintaining the integrity of the art and possibly adding some of the darker qualities of the writing to it in the process. I like the tactile quality of the final piece. The ratty old binding, slightly sloppy design and antiquated fonts all thrown together imprecisely create something that looks elegant and rich.
