After the Fall: Srebrenica Survivors in St. Louis
Design Kitchen, Chicago, Illinois, 2000
Description
Combining three separate yet complementary parts to tell one story was the biggest challenge of designing this book. The first part was treated as a chronology of events during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina using video stills from a documentary called Safe Haven. The second part featured interviews and photographs of the Oric family members in St. Louis. Finally, the third part was a photo documentary of Bosnia-Herzegovina after the war. The use of black-and-white photography was decided upon at the early stages of the project to communicate a stark journalistic approach to capture not just the events of the war, but also the lives of the Oric family. Minimal color (black and red) was used to simply tell the story and not distract from the real events and photographs.
