The Devil’s Larder

The Devil’s Larder

Farrar, Straus and Giroux, New York, New York, 2001

Description

The challenge in designing books is always the same for me: exercising restraint in my text layout to allow the author’s words to emerge without sacrificing overall design “oomph.” My choice of ornamentation reflected the “devil’s appetite” theme of the 64 short fictions. With a limited budget, I worked closely with my production manager to juggle costs, thus enabling us to afford a second color for the first signature and colorfully printed endpapers. My favorite design element is the naughty red “s” in the title.
