Two Cities: A Love Story
Houghton Mifflin Company, New York, New York, 1999
Description
As the subtitle implies, this is a “love story,” and I was asked to design a cover with a romantic sensibility. The book itself, however, is challenging: rhythmic and haunting at the same time—anything but a conventional “love story.”
I decided on a very cinematic or film poster-like approach in order to highlight the book’s narrative quality. The relationships in the story are represented very simply by the photographs.
