Sinatra! The Song Is You
Carin Goldberg Design, New York, New York, 1995
Description
The best thing about this project was that the art direction was clear and direct. I was told that this book was not about Sinatra, the man but about Sinatra’s music, therefore, a portrait would be inappropriate. Thank God! I think this cover succeeds because of it’s context. Having done album covers earlier in my career, I am aware that this solution in the context of an album package would not have been as inspired and frankly, it’s been done. As a book jacket it looks fresh and without cliche. I also think it works because I was completely true to the detail, type and texture of the original 78 LP label. For legal purposes I redesigned the logo at the top.
