The Influence Machine book

Eggers + Diaper, Berlin, Germany, 2002

Description

Although The Influencex Machine documents a series of projections by Tony Oursler, the publishers also requested a piece that went further, fathoming the mind of the artist and the themes haunting him. Photographs combine with transcripts of the installations, while essays and an interview analyze the work. The book ends with a time line summarizing key moments in the development of the media, from its roots in philosophy, religion and mythology to the development of spirituality, moving imagery, telecommunications and the internet. References to ghosts and machines punctuate the book, and the cover features a specially produced photofluorescent ink that glows in the dark.
