These Granite Islands
Little, Brown and Company, New York, New York, 1999
Description
Everyone liked the direction from the start, but everyone wanted the girl on the front to have a different head. Solving the type of head (hair color, style, hat, etc.) took months. It was humorous.
The image on the book is one I found to summarize many feelings of the story. A woman afraid of the water canoes out to be a lookout while her best friend meets her lover. The woman is against her cheating on her husband, but understands the powers of love and helps her. Capturing this moment and adding the layering of stitching/island shapes made the package emotional, pretty and complex at the same time.
