Envisioning Science: The Design and Craft of the Science Image book
Stuart McKee Design, San Francisco, California, 2002
Description
The design of this publication began at least one year before I received any initial manuscript. The book’s author and photographer, Felice Frankel, notified me of her plans to write a publication that would teach scientists how to create compelling photographs of their experimental work. Felice proposed that we work on the book simultaneously and collaboratively, and she requested that the book begin with my design, informed only by her vision of what the final book would include. Upon hearing her description, I realized that this book would become at least five different books combined into one: a workbook, a reference text, a photography book, a storybook and, most intriguing for me, a guidebook for sightseeing into the colorful realm of science.
