CalArts Spring Music Festival Poster
California Institute of the Arts Public Affairs Office, Valencia, California, 1996
Description
This poster was intended to attract a music-going audience. It also functioned as a souvenir for the event participants.
The client brief was short, but he mentioned that the event would be “blooming” with music. This being one of the most inspiring directives, I took his word quite literally. Designing for music, and this music school in particular, is quite provocative and in synch with the work I am interested in making. I value this project mostly for the thought processes I tried to exercise in creating the forms in the final poster. The final forms are close, but in seeing this poster now (of course) there are things I would change—things that are not quite cooked.
