Alter Ego
Albatross Press, Chicago, Illinois, 2006
Description
I have always been fascinated by facial expressions. When you draw a face, the slightest variance in line can change an expression. One can alter the line of an eyebrow and introduce doubt into a joyful countenance. To capture moments of emotional ambiguity, to show the dissonance between the inner and outer life, the social and the private, the mind and its mask, is the reward of drawing the face. To meditate on a portrait is to remember that in-between state, the state of life between mind and face.
