Black and White, August 1957, no. 7
Milton Glaser, New York, New York, 1957
Description
This was not a thematic issue. So the cover essay about Franz Kline and double page drawing inside have little in common except that Glaser’s interest in calligraphic gesture, similar in some ways to Kline’s, was the basis for this drawing of Mussolini marching on Rome. Although Glaser did not feel that this drawing was particularly accomplished, the distribution of black and white was interesting to him. At the same time, he was developing a crosshatch drawing that derived from his experience etching in Italy.
