What They Said, 1960, no. 25
Seymour Chwast, New York, New York, 1960
Description
Chwast had been making papier-mâché sculpture in his spare time, but he decided to use one in this issue in addition to his woodcut technique for seriously comic portraits of famous people. The quotations included Queen Elizabeth on her epitaph, Ernest Hemingway on morality, Herbert Hoover on politics, and Napoleon’s saying “The best constitution is short and obscure.”
