The Home Owner’s Manual
Headcase Design, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 2006
Description
Our goal was to make a relatively dry subject interesting, lively and humorous while still conveying all of the necessary technical information—some of which is quite complex—in a clear, easy-to-decipher manner. Because the book is only two-color, we experimented with mixing those two colors to expand the palette for the illustrations and to increase the perceived value to the buyers. Adobe Illustrator won’t let you mix spot Pantone colors, so we had to “trick” it and set the files up as shades of cyan and magenta—cyan representing the blue and magenta representing the orange. Then the printer printed those plates with the chosen Pantone colors.
Juror Notes
“The book’s clean, contemporary look appeals to young readers but also organizes the information well.”
