Thirty Frames Per Second: The Visionary Art of the Music Video

Thirty Frames Per Second: The Visionary Art of the Music Video

Tolleson Design, San Francisco, California, 2001

Description

We had to translate the movement and energy of the music video format to print and also organize the catalogue of music video directors and their work.

We made the format similar to a letterbox screen, and designing each page to have its own unique personality. A number of different fonts were used to help express motion.

The most difficult parameter was translating the video screen shots into print. Many could not be blown up to a large size, and for printing purposes, the RGB imagery needed to be converted to CMYK, so maintaining color consistency and image quality was an issue.

The plexiglass cover– with its resemblance to a CD case and a television screen—elevates the book to an entirely different level.
