New Material as New Media: The Fabric Workshop and Museum at Twenty-Five Years
Matsumoto Incorporated, New York, New York, 2003
Description
The client wanted a lavish publication to celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary and to record some of its most notable collaborations with contemporary artists. The goal was to showcase as many artists as possible while giving each artist ample space in the catalog. The large size (11 x 13-1/4”) allowed for a sense of scale for the artworks represented, many of which are installations or similarly large pieces. Three different covers were produced, each in a different color. The special edition of the book is housed in an aluminum case, die cut with 25 holes and hinged so that the book can easily be taken out and placed in the box.
Juror Notes
“Lush and tactile–though the metal special-edition box is perhaps overkill. This is the kind of fresh approach to the art book’s form we’ve come to expect from Matsumoto.” Cheryl Towler Weese
