GTE Mainstreet
GibbsBaronet, Dallas, Texas, 1997
Description
GTE Mainstreet is an interactive cable television channel that is geared toward computer-shy, small-town audiences that want some of the benefits that the Internet may offer without having to own a computer. Each spot highlights a specific benefit the channel provides: an interactive encyclopedia, story time for children, and updated stock quotes on demand. Budget did not allow for live-action film, so we produced everything using still photography scanned onto CDs and went direct to finish in Henry edit suite. Design considerations included matching the colors of these spots with the color coding of subject matter on the Mainstreet channel itself. The typography movement in these spots was designed to foreshadow the exciting interactivity viewers would be able to have right on their own TV. What makes these spots stand out from the clutter of other low-budget TV spots is the witty use of typography in combination with the smart conversational-style copy.
