Sentenced to Repay: Reform Social Security
Trudy Cole-Zielanski Design, Churchville, Virginia, 1996
Description
After recently giving birth to her first daughter, Sierra, Trudy Cole-Zielanski began reading about the Social Security system’s uncertain financial future. She responded by creating this poster to remind legislators of the effects of Social Security reform on currently non-voting, but significantly affected, future generations. She photographed her daughter, complete with Social Security card, and then ran the picture through numerous generations of photocopying to achieve the rough, grainy result. After printing the poster at her own expense, she sent it to a variety of politicians, “from the vice president on down,” who are involved in Social Security reform.
