Viewbook and website, Otis College
Studio Blue, Chicago, Illinois, 2004
Description
The 2004–2005 Otis College of Art and Design undergraduate viewbook is an extension of Studio Blue’s award-winning work on the previous year’s viewbook and the Otis website. We researched the visual and cultural language of Otis’ teenage audience to communicate with the young and diverse readers. With a lively, updated color palette, Studio Blue created a unique jacket that unwraps to double as a poster and a body of illustrations that reflect the excitement of student life and the college’s creative atmosphere, as well as the Otis website. The viewbook is a continuation of Otis’ updated brand and conveys the school’s friendly and dynamic environment.
Along with creating a new viewbook, we worked with the Otis College of Art and Design to redesign their website. We used the same color palette as in the viewbook and added animation and illustration in the page heads to take advantage of the electronic media, but we kept the pages of the site streamlined and lean so that it could be easily managed and updated by the school. We also introduced the “Otiscope,” a place where student work and life could be displayed. The new website depicts the school’s strengths—a Los Angeles location, an intense and focused student body and an independent spirit—while conveying the energy of the creative process.
