2wice 9:2: How to Pass, Kick, Fall and Run
Pentagram Design, New York, New York, 2006
Description
Each issue of 2wice, published twice yearly by the 2wice Arts Foundation, is a thematic exploration into the visual and performing arts. By focusing on themes, rather than a specific medium or discipline, links are established between diverse areas of cultural and artistic practice, such as painting, sculpture, photography, film, design, fashion, dance, music, material culture and new media. 2wice is intended to both document and vividly materialize the theme of each issue.
The issue of 2wice titled “How to Pass, Kick, Fall and Run” was inspired by Merce Cunningham’s lively dance by the same name from 1965. With his blessing, 2wice appropriated his words and gave them their own interpretation. The title offers audiences a way into the movement, just as in this issue it offers readers a window into dance, architecture, performance, painting, books and art. Based on the “how-to” concept, the issue explores motifs such as how to make art, how to be a guru, and how to dance through the photography of Katherine Wolkoff and Jens Umbach, the architecture of Robert Kronenburg, and the dancing of Tom Gold and the Mark Morris Dance Group.
