R.E.M. “New Adventures in Hi-Fi”

R.E.M. “New Adventures in Hi-Fi

Warner Bros. Records, Burbank, California, 1996

Description

The R.E.M. “New Adventures in Hi-Fi” limited-edition package is geared toward die-hard fans of the group. Since the record was made during the 1995 tour, the package was to reflect the environment in which it was conceived. The book is meant to be a travel log, following the journey, both physical and psychological, from one end of the world to the other. Many different types of materials were used, including chipboard, plastic and metal, and kraft butcher papers with metallic inks to create an eclectic combination that is reminiscent of items gathered while traveling. I feel this package expands the ideas of what can be done with coarse materials, as well as complementing the music and ideas that the package contains.
