For this exhibition, we sought to create an environment that appeared open and boundless–referring to the panoramic western landscapes that inspired the featured photographers.

At the entrance, wide-angle viewfinders allowed visitors to see the gallery through the type of lens used to create the work in the show. Looking through the lens, a small title for each thematic section appeared superimposed over its corresponding location in the space.

The platform-like surfaces—their shapes derived from the paths of circulation through the exhibit—abstractly referenced landscape features and allowed works to be seen from an ideal viewing distance.

The white walls contributed to the effect of openness while the low, orange surfaces complemented the predominantly sky-blue color of the landscape photographs.
