San Francisco Food Bank Donor Wall
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, San Francisco, California, 1998
Description
The donor wall welcomes visitors and acknowledges the many individuals who funded the building project by providing services, materials, and labor as a donation or at cost, and those who generously gave money. The challenge was to design the donor recognition signage to suit its location with an economy of means.
The palette of materials includes tin cans, steel, and acrylic. Located at the main pedestrian entry, the donor wall is the focal point of the building lobby. Our intent was to remind the viewer, through the imagery of a simple tin can, that these contributors were “building against hunger.”
