Nabokov Series
Vintage Books, New York, New York, 2009
Description
The brief was to redesign the covers for all of Vladimir Nabokov’s books. Aside from being a great writer, Nabokov was also a passionate butterfly collector. My idea for this series was to have a different designer illustrate each title using a butterfly specimen box that they could fill using only paper and mounting pins.
Juror Notes
Nabokov was a lepidopterist (butterfly collector). The designers were given a box used for collecting butterflies by art director John Gall. Each designer was instructed to use paper and pins and given carte blanche. The concept behind the series is just brilliant. What a series.
