Paul Kepple
Paul Kepple is the principal of Headcase Design, a design/illustration studio in Philadelphia that specializes in publishing. Headcase clients have included Chronicle Books, Esquire, Farrar Straus and Giroux, GQ, HarperCollins, Melcher Media, Metropolis, The New York Times, Newsweek, Nickelodeon, Penguin, Quirk Books, Time and Wired. Kepple has designed and illustrated elaborate tie-in books for HBO’s Deadwood and The Sopranos; the hit Broadway shows Wicked, Avenue Q and Spring Awakening; art-centric autobiographies for music legends Courtney Love (Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney Love) and Eminem (The Way I Am); as well as the popular “Owner’s Manual” series, which includes The Baby Owner’s Manual and The Dog Instruction Manual. Headcase’s work has been recognized by AIGA’s “365” and “50 Books/50 Covers” competitions, American Illustration, Communication Arts, Graphis, How and Print. Kepple has taught part-time at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia—his alma mater—since 1998.
