Chip Kidd: Book One
Mark Melnick Graphic Design, New York, New York, 2005
Description
Since I am primarily a book-jacket designer, and since the subject of this book is arguably the world’s most well-known book-jacket designer, I considered it to be an ideal project.
Juror Notes
A book in which the pages have literally outgrown their binding. An apt metaphor for a designer who has outgrown his own niche. Jam-packed with covers and sketches. The sheer amount and quality of the work is dizzying and electrifying.
This is a fine howdy-do: a hardcover book that is only half covered, and designed by none other than one of our preeminent book-cover designers. Seriously, though, this compendium of Chip’s work to date is nothing less than a survey of our literary tastes, cultural icons and font fetishes. To boot, the anecdotes, almost were’s, and inspirational sources make this “your book of books”!
