Art Is… And Then… poster

Art Is… And Then… poster

Visual Arts Press, New York, New York, 2001

Description

Art is…And then… is one of three posters created for the School of Visual Arts. I attempted to describe aspects of the art making process: the fear and concentration of the first charge (Suddenly); the elaborately ridiculous effort involved (Meanwhile); and the delicate research, study, and gathering of hybrid information (And Then). I did color studies of the compositions and photographed my main character for reference. The original paintings were larger than the reproduced size (approximately 3.5 by 5 feet).

Juror Notes

“This illustration is so bizarre. There’s a point to be made about when artists have a style and a world of their own, you just have to buy into it. This is definitely Woodruff. It’s crazy, buggy, flowery. It’s really not cool.”
