Gucci Eau de Parfum bottle
Lloyd (+ co), New York, New York, 2002
Description
We wanted to design a bottle for a new Gucci fragrance that would be luxurious and prestigious, embodying the Gucci brand, but unique to an already saturated market. We created a fragrance bottle that is as much about encasing the fragrance as being a display object to live on one’s shelf. We were able to work with the manufacturer to create a glass bottle whose heavy weight is greater than the fragrance cavity—difficult to achieve as well as unusual.
The main challenge was to make that much glass work from a cost standpoint, since that quantity raises shipping costs and reduces profit margins. The special challenge was to make the object feel both modern and classic; the solution came from melding the classic feel of heavy glass with the modernity of an architectural shape.
