Velvet Crush “Teenage Symphonies to God”

Velvet Crush “Teenage Symphonies to God

Sony Music, Santa Monica, California, 1996

Description

In the words of Velvet Crush drummer Ric Menck, “What we are interested in is the idea of the eternal teenager in each of us.” A time when music touched our pleasure centers and took us to another place.

Parameters were a standard 4/c CD booklet. We wanted to create art for this “eternal teenager” that would serve as a campaign icon. The choice of line art, typography, and color (intentionally off-register) were intended to reflect the band’s love of ’50s and ’60s album art, as well as some of their musical influences. The opportunity to pay tribute to one of my favorite periods of cover design was one I will always appreciate.
