American Tableaux
Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 2001
Description
Instead of producing a single gallery guide for “American Tableaux”, we produced eight different booklets, suggesting the plurality of interpretive possibilities contained within the exhibition. A new gallery guide is available each month during the eight-month run of the show, and finally bound into a single notebook.
All the books were produced out of two press sheets, which determined the trim size. We used different paperstocks to articulate the difference between the writings and artworks. The translucent binder that houses the collection allows the front of a booklet to serve as a “cover” for the bound volume. This “non-cover/cover” treatment, the striped color scheme and the looped staples are three details that are particularly rewarding.
