Simple Shelter

Wagner Murray Architects, Charlotte, North Carolina, 1995

Description

Market deficiencies often demand innovation. Simple Shelter, a prototypical tent, was developed in response to a market shortcoming. Simple Shelter provides an easy functional, portable and demountable shelter application. The tent concept evolved from a specific client request to lower the cost of the extended rental burden for a seasonal Farmer’s Market. The project was conceived, designed, tested and manufactured in less than 90 days. The cost per tent was under $300, significantly less than the accumulated rental costs for the standard four-post pyramid canvas tent.
Good design expands our visual parameters and elevates our sensibilities. When a product serves an intended application in a novel way, then the benefits are decidedly pragmatic while communicating a universal application.
