Cracker Barrel Old Country Store 1997 Annual Report
Thomas Ryan Design, Nashville, Tennessee, 1997
Description
Since Cracker Barrel restaurants feature rural American comfort foods in the setting of an old country store, the annual report’s narrative uses fragments of nostalgia to invoke warm memories of the past.
The almanac-size book fits in the hand like a small black bible. French-folded full-bleed color divider sections using cropped pieces of rural advertising images of the ’30s and ’40s surround black-and-white letterpress text sections. Since the restaurant chain is expanding out of the South to a national presence, the narrative text describes anecdotes about favorite foods told by regional voices. Black and white quadtones of food contrast the brightly colored dividers.
