(B)efore/(a)fter
Couch Records, Vienna, Austria, 2000
Description
The design for (B)efore/(a)fter is a play on words translated visually. To express this, I used photos that look like snapshots and describe the connection between the “before and after” idea. The repetition of the imagery reinforces the feeling and emphasizes the idea of metamorphosis from one state to another. The production of the photos was quite difficult. We had to swim far from the beach to this little platform (with all our clothes and equipment wrapped in plastic), and every time someone jumped into the water the platform rocked so much that we thought we’d all fall into the water.
