The AIGA Seattle chapter asked us to design invitations for the 2009 membership party highlighting the venue: the Space Needle. We knew that the last thing any designer in Seattle would want to see was yet another photo or icon of the Space Needle. So, we abstracted the AIGA letterforms so they could be cut out and made them into a three-dimensional paper model of the Space Needle with party information on the saucer.

There’s an appealing innocence to this piece as it invites you to cut out the shapes and construct them. I especially appreciate this in context with Seattle’s DIY culture.
