The Bold Italic is an online publication that covers culture, politics and relevant news in the Bay Area. The site’s main goal is to capture the print magazine experience in the online space by allowing designers to create singularly unique and visually engaging designs for the daily featured articles.

“Grizzly Man” builds on the “informational” tone of the content by providing a fully illustrated guide to this species of “bear” in addition to the eye-popping hero image.

The Bold Italic’s use of customized art direction for what is generally a generic, automated process is delightful, surprising and refreshing. The web needs more of this.
