MEC,
Mevis & van Deursen with Danielle Aubert, Detroit, Michigan, 2009
Description
The purpose of this book is to represent 20 years of artist Mary Ellen Carroll’s work in a comprehensive way. We collaborated with her to organize her projects loosely into 16 categories (e.g., Mistakes, Nothing, Inscription, Lateness). These were based on an index-card system that Carroll uses to organize her ideas. Each section of the book begins with transcribed notes from one of her index cards. Projects that belonged in several places were listed twice and cross-referenced.
Juror Notes
The design and type selection are as cerebral as the work.
